A Weekend of Human Rights featuring Rev. Dr. William Schulz

April 17 and 18 was A Weekend of Human Rights at First Universalist. Saturday morning was a workshop for members and Friends of First Universalist. On Saturday evening, at 7 p.m. in the Sanctuary, Rev. Dr. Schulz gave a free lecture assessing the Obama administration's human rights record and describing the critical challenges ahead. A free will offering was taken to benefit the program's co-sponsors: Minnesota Advocates for Human Rights, the Center for Victims of Torture, and the National Religious Campaign Against Torture.

Bill Schulz Workshop

Bill Schulz, recently appointed interim director of the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee and former president of Amnesty International, presented a workshop for members and friends of First Universalist on Saturday, April 17, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Social Hall. The workshop, titled "Could the Other Side Have a Point? Tackling Tough Issues of Public Ethics," was attended by 60 people from First Universalist.

 

Ordination and Installation of the Reverend Justin Schroeder

Justin Schroeder will be ordained into the Unitarian Universalist ministry and called in a Ceremony of Covenant with the First Universalist Church of Minneapolis at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 25. Rev. Schroeder will be the tenth minister to serve this congregation, which is celebrating its 150th anniversary on this day.

Celebrate 150 Years of First Universalist Church, October 25, 2009

First Universalist Church of Minneapolis will mark its 150th birthday on October 25th with one intergenerational service at 10:00 a.m. There will be inspiring words, beautiful music, including "We Will," composed and performed by Ann Reed along with the First Universalist choir. Everyone is welcome to enjoy this momentous occasion and gather with old friends and new. There will be treats and birthday cake in the Social Hall following the service.
